Facebook Topping On Ice Cream Sandwich
April 5, 2013 - 1 minute readYesterday Facebook announced a family of Android-based smartphone apps which is to be called Facebook Home. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced “We’re going to talk about how you can transform your Android phone into a great social phone”
Facebook Home will be available on April 12 on certain phones which run the Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean versions of the Android operating system. The apps will be extended to tablets later in the year.
Facebook home will become the users home screen and will be loaded when the phone is sleeping. They will get a cover feed which includes link shares, status updates and new photos. Users can double-tap to make a comment from their phone’s home screen and can pull up apps from the phone’s lock screen by swiping from the bottom up.
Android user numbers on the rise and many firms who traditionally look towards iPhone app developers to create apps for iOS are now moving towards developing apps for the Android platform. As an iPad app developer in Los Angeles we’ll be studying the platform and Facebook mobile’s moves.
