US Government Embraces Mobile App Technology
May 29, 2012 - 1 minute readThe Obama administration has ushered in a new era of digitization, pushing government agencies to start developing mobile apps. “Americans deserve a government that works for them anytime, anywhere, and on any device,” the president stated.
Obama recently ordered all government agencies to offer more of their services in the form of mobile apps; each of them has to make at least two services available on mobile devices within 12 months. Agencies are also required to provide online resources for third party iPhone app developers. Each agency will offer an online resource page for developers in a centralized catalog.
The President’s technology initiative mandates that government data resources become more accessible to the public as well as entrepreneurs who can turn the data into services.
Navigating the ‘labyrinth of massive amounts of information’ will likely turn into a much simpler and enjoyable experience for the public. Need tax info for your business? Use the IRS-app. Not sure if your visa request has been processed yet? The USCIS could make a handy app for that.
